Porto Velho Airport
Porto Velho International Airport became part of VINCI Airports network in February 2022 under a 30-year concession contract awarded by the Brazilian Civil Aviation Authority in April 2021. Located 7 km from the city centre and with a 2400 m long runway, the airport is one of the busiest in northern Brazil.
In 2023, Porto Velho Airport was recognised by the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) as one of Brazil’s most sustainable airports in the Sustainable Airports programme, in the category of airports handling up to one million passengers. The airport tied with Boa Vista airport, also operated by VINCI Airports.
At the end of 2024, VINCI Airports completed modernisation works at seven airports in Brazil’s northern region, consolidating the improvements made to airport infrastructure in the Amazon region.
This major works programme is part of the commitment made by VINCI Airports when it acquired the Amazon airports in 2021. A total of 1.4 billion reais worth of works have been carried out at the airports of Manaus (AM), Tefé (AM), Tabatinga (AM), Porto Velho (RO), Boa Vista (RR), Rio Branco (AC) and Cruzeiro do Sul (AC), to improve safety, accessibility, comfort and operational efficiency. These improvements offer a better passenger experience and stimulate local economic development by strengthening air links between the Amazon, Brazil and the rest of the world.
At Porto Velho International Airport, work has included extending the passenger terminal, modernising the runway and installing new air conditioning and accessibility systems. These works have considerably improved the airport’s operational capacity, enabling it to handle domestic and international flights with greater efficiency and comfort.
In particular, new equipment such as lifts and escalators have been installed, offering all passengers, including those with reduced mobility, easier and safer access. The refurbishment of the runway, which meets the highest safety standards, was also a major focus of the work, ensuring safer and more reliable operations.
